Integrating Body & Mind
Our Approach to Psychotherapy
Much of the therapy that is currently being offered in the world focuses exclusively on symptom control or management of “disease” and not on real, deep, meaningful healing.
Mend is different.
Mend therapists understand that crises in our lives. depression, trauma even betrayal are all potential moments of transformation, if engaged with skillfully. It is painful and difficult to move out of our old skin, but it is essential to personal growth and development as full, vibrant, embodied human beings. The emotional challenges we face are not something wrong with us, but a chafing against old patterns and unconscious behaviors that have become too small for who we are becoming. More than anything, Mend therapists help clients understand and make meaning of their life and difficulties so that they can become ever more fully their most authentic self.
working at the root of the problem
And yet, we know that the symptoms of trauma (as well as depression and anxiety) can get in the way of our ability to derive benefit from these opportunities for growth. As trauma specialists, Mend therapists have the skills necessary to overcome these barriers. We utilize the gold standard of current trauma treatments including EMDR, Somatic Experiencing and Emotionally Focused Therapy. We are trained in the latest understanding of the nervous system and the role it plays in helping individuals, couples and families find health both in themselves and in their relationships.
